SEATTLE RESTAURANT WORKERS SURVEY
THE PROJECT
A survey of restaurant workers to better understand changing perceptions of the restaurant industry and proposed policy changes affecting Seattle restaurants. The goal was to get as many participants as possible.
AUDIENCE
Employees of the restaurant industry; servers, cooks, and bartenders from fast food to fine dining.
THE PROPOSAL
By speaking to individuals in the restaurant industry, I learned that most prefer interacting with employers online. Therefore, my approach was to focus on an email to be sent to establishments to forward onto their employees and a social media campaign to spread awareness. Since the majority of service workers are young and on social media this gave us a chance to connect directly to the workers as well as through their employers.
THE DESIGN
The aesthetic was kept clean and minimal, emphasizing the main message “Does your job work for you?” and a link to the survey. To demonstrate to the range of workers included in the survey that this is for them, I illustrated hands serving or cooking different dishes.
RESULTS
The email and social media front served to collect over 5,000 individual submissions.
